A morning star is also a vicious medieval weapon, a
spiked ball (sometimes on a chain) attached to a club
used to smash a person's skull open. The rough
peasant's version (as opposed to more professionally
made military versions) would be made from wood cut
locally, for which reason forests were often known as
"arsenals of God". Go figure.
