They're merely obligated. Peer-pressure-ish. It's easy to justify one's
actions when you're convinced you're doing The Right Thing. That makes sense
to *my* psyche, but everyone's value-system is different of course. IMO. I
guess one of religions' roles is to provide a single value-system for all
followers.

Not really, they have simply hidden it under a veil of religion.
The result is a confused and dogmatic approach where they fear
straying away from what others expect. If they had no fear, they would
not blindly follow. As i said earlier, if the person is confused then
they will confuse the 'truths'.
