I don't think the "norms" really kicked in till the early eighties or so, but yes, by then the Stranglers were not just out on an evolutionary limb, but had built a tree-house and moved their stuff in.

Anyway, great band... remind me to tell you about stage-diving at a Stranglers gig in Vienna.
