[kj] party pooper/from un des etrangers......

That'll be Slayer. Hammersmith Odeon, around 88/89. I
was told by someone at the time that they were using a
sound man who usually did the likes of Tina Turner
tours etc, because what they DIDN'T want was some
cloth-eared metalhead cunt who just turned everything
up louder than everything else. The sound was
phenomenal. Loud as fuck but crystal clear, like
listening to the album on headphones with the volume
way up.
(The gig was also made memorable by a friend of mine
who'd taken some acid, then ran down the central aisle
during the gig and attacked the security because he
thought "Satan was coming out of my belly-button".)

Peter, just because a band plays heavy loud music
doesn't mean in a live situation it has to sound like
a distorted frigging mess. Quite the opposite. I'd say
the louder and heavier the music, the more care has to
be taken over the live reproduction of that music.
