Give me EXTREMITIES over DEMOCRAPY any day. The former has a
low-budget quality, yes, but that also helps it sound raw and live.
Coming after OtG and 1000 SUNS that was refreshing in the, er,
extreme. With a big budget and more time then it could have sounded
very different, some tracks possibly better, but I still like the
warts-and-all aspect, because the songs are strong enough to stand up
to scrutiny. DEMOCRACY, on the other hand, is a textbook example of
bad production. And at a very high budget (£30,000 - only one man
thought it was worth that much, and he paid it to himself.) I honestly
think given the masters I could do a better job myself. He made weak
songs even worse. He just hadn't a clue what to do with the material,
seemed to wing it in a stoned haze and somehow managed to convince
himself it sounded ok.

I'm not in a band and have no experience, but that's my take on it.
