many of the origional New Age Travellers were 'survivalists'
i recall going through the thinking in the early 80's. I guess many of
us thought there was going to be nuclear war - we werent playing on
those peace camps you know!
it led me, along with a mothers death, to a total rethink and a
healthy approach to life. Self responsibility instead of relying on
some authority to take care of you. Self determination instead of
being a pinball on someone elses machine.
Others took different routes and replaced one authority with smack,
the soul stealer.
Still, i guess many of us still thought Jazs exodus to Iceland was
extreme. We believed in the threat - look at the general thrust of all
the punk material at the time - so i guess we just didnt fancy
Iceland! ; )
