[kj] BTATS symbol - again

And written language is merely symbols, anyway. The alphabet is a bunch
of abstract symbols, a tool to shift language into a time-extended
medium (instead of the "in the moment" of oral conversation).

All this word/image and man v. woman stuff reminds me of this book, "The
Alphabet Versus the Goddess: Conflict Between Word and Image."

The hidden "consequences" of literacy. Pretty interesting histrical
theory and exploration of how the adoption of alphabets and literacy
accentuated values and the use of parts of the brain (e.g. linear time,
abstract vs. holistic thinking) that made patriarchal societies
possible...the origination of monotheism, and the fall of
goddess-worshiping cultures and status of women in societies. Sweeping
theories, but it was a good read.
