[kj] Vote for love!

The basic principles of democracy are laudable and must be fought for
(especially if you don't have them wherever you are) but that doesn't
mean we should take thyem for granted if we do have them.

It's naive to assume that you should just vote for any party because
they would be the best at running the whole she-bang. Everyone has an
opinion on who would be the best on particular issues but no one party
has a monopoly on running the whole show.

The constituency sytem that runs in the UK sucks because of the way the
constituencies are organised but that just ain't gonna change overnight.
I'll be voting, and it won't be for either of the 'main two' parties
even though (a) one of them will undoubtedly win and (b) my constituency
is a 100% dyed-in-the-wool tory stronghold. If I vote Lib Dem it will be
because they are the most viable alternative to the other two (even
though they won't win). If I vote Green it will be because (despite them
being a load of beardies) they are passionate about issues that I feel
to be important whilst I have no illusion that they would be any good at
running the country as a whole.

The present government needs a good run for their money and a much
reduced power base. They also need some decent opposition (and, no, that
ain't the tories). I believe the best opposition wouldn't come from any
one party. Let's go for a hung parliament. Or maybe there'll be some
good telly on May 5th...

If you take your head out of the sand for one minute you'll realise
that we are going to end up with one of those three whether you like
it or not.
Surely you must have a preference out of them!!??
If we all thought the same as you we could end up with someone even
worse in power, although I suspect most people think Bush is already
in power over here - in the 51st State!
