[kj] ot: the Futureheads

Fair point, Rob. There's not a great deal of diversity to their sound -- but you could level that same argument at many a great band (from the Buzzcocks to Motorhead), but point taken anyway. They're certainly not for everyone, but I'm quite enjoying their thick, chunky guitar sound. Geeks? Yes, they're geeks in block capital letters. They make the Proclaimers look like fuckin' Prong, but they still have a great, hyper sound. I'm sure Jaz, Geordie and Raven would think they were absolute shit, but y'know....whatever. I can't imagine how Andy Gill went from working with the Joke right into working with the Futureheads.

If you like early, hiccupy XTC, this may be a band you'd enjoy.

Alex sums them up very nicely but live they tend to drag at bit as all the songs sort of sound the same.
But they did do a bizarre&nbsp; Kate Bush cover which was very effective but a bit "studenty". Fit very well with Franz Fedinand methinks
Music for geeks - but&nbsp;I mean that in a nice way and I am not AT ALL suggesting that Alex is a geek ;-)

Alright, granted: They are entirely guilty of being card-carrying members of the 80's retrobsessed plague of hipster bands (down to their oh-so-No-Wavey album cover), but their sound is amazing. They obviously own a copy of DRUMS &amp; WIRES and GO 2 by XTC, but there are bits of the Skids and the Rezillos in there as well. Sure, it's all New Wavey, but these guys **ATTACK** the songs with the ferocity of fuckin' Slayer. It's jerky, adrenalized stuff with great, clangy guitars and speedy, jittery rhythmns Anyway, I quite dig it. Listen to/download etc. the track "Carnival Kids" and see if you agree.
