That's why I like the Jana EP version of Wardance so much.  He throws in some extra saucy dissonance in there and it just makes the song so much better.  
 
I think recent riffery such as Dark Forces and Total Invasion are about as far away from the classic Geordie style as you can get and to me it's not a progression.
