All the same - I would say keep up the paranoia!! Paris is probably not =
especially bad, but as with any city in the world, when people are poor =
& desperate they will seize opportunities to take from the unsuspecting, =
and even if you don't look like a tourist, the often essential =
map-reading in public can make you a target... Be especially careful at =
stations, tourist sites, and on the metro, and if somebody approaches =
you for any reason, keep an even tighter hold on your possessions, as =
they could be distracting your attention whilst a buddy picks you =
pocket.

Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted. New York must have it's fair =
share of opportunist crime...
